Missed Connection

Music can sometimes make you feel like your in a different world. It can take you from a state of sadness, and bring you to a point where you don’t have a care in the world. Likewise, music can just as easily turn your good mood into sadness with its thought provoking lyrics and dark melodies. No other genre though, in my opinion, can change your mood as much as folk can. With the likes of The Head and the Heart, The Lumineers, Whitney and Passenger being prime examples of bands that can so easily change your mood, song after song.

The newest single by The Head and the Heart, “Missed Connection”, which is an upbeat song that speaks about accidentally meeting the love your life, Changed my mood instantly. By the first melody, I felt much happier and more awake then I was after a long and tiring day. ”Missed Connections” is not the only mood changing song in the genre however; songs like “Frieda” by the Morningsiders, ”Dirty Paws” by Of Monsters and Men, ”Follow” by Whitney just to name a few are also great songs that instantly put you into a good mood.

Music, although it can be beautiful, is not always uplifting. It may be obvious, but sad and thought provoking music can be just as important to healing your mind and soul, as well as improving your mood. When music can make you think, it can inspire you to fix parts of your life that were broken that you didn’t even realize were causing pain and misery in your life. Again using The Head and the Heart as an example, their song “10,000 Weight in Gold” was one of the most influential songs to me that Iv’e ever heard. It reminds you to be grateful for what you have, because you won’t realize how much it was worth until you lose it. “Well 10, 000 weight in gold, Never feels like treasure until you lose it all.”
