Missed Connection

Music can sometimes make you feel like your in a different world. It can take you from a state of sadness, and bring you to a point where you don’t have a care in the world. Likewise, music can just as easily turn your good mood into sadness with its thought provoking lyrics and dark melodies. No other genre though, in my opinion, can change your mood as much as folk can. With the likes of The Head and the Heart, The Lumineers, Whitney and Passenger being prime examples of bands that can so easily change your mood, song after song.

The newest single by The Head and the Heart, “Missed Connection”, which is an upbeat song that speaks about accidentally meeting the love your life, Changed my mood instantly. By the first melody, I felt much happier and more awake then I was after a long and tiring day. ”Missed Connections” is not the only mood changing song in the genre however; songs like “Frieda” by the Morningsiders, ”Dirty Paws” by Of Monsters and Men, ”Follow” by Whitney just to name a few are also great songs that instantly put you into a good mood.

Music, although it can be beautiful, is not always uplifting. It may be obvious, but sad and thought provoking music can be just as important to healing your mind and soul, as well as improving your mood. When music can make you think, it can inspire you to fix parts of your life that were broken that you didn’t even realize were causing pain and misery in your life. Again using The Head and the Heart as an example, their song “10,000 Weight in Gold” was one of the most influential songs to me that Iv’e ever heard. It reminds you to be grateful for what you have, because you won’t realize how much it was worth until you lose it. “Well 10, 000 weight in gold, Never feels like treasure until you lose it all.”

When listening to music, listen to the lyrics, because you never know how they can change you.

New Age Music Is a Problem

With the ability for underground artists to become mainstream with apps like Soundcloud allowing artists to share their music all over the world, you would think that many talented artists would arise into the mainstream media. This has not been the case however; with artists who can’t sing, rap, or write becoming the most famous artists of our times, with Lil pump, 6ix 9ine, and Lil Uzi vert to name a few. These artists have people write, mix, and auto tune their music, and by the end of the process, the song is barely recognizable compared to its original.

This causes the talented artists who don’t have the money to make these professional songs unable to make it big, which is a problem. There may be a slight bias due to me not enjoying the style of music most of these artists put out (mumble rap), but I think that something needs to be done for the artists without the funds to be recognized.

Death of an artist

With the recent death of so many rappers, I thought that it would be only fitting to talk about the death of one of my favorite artists; Chester Bennington. Chester Bennington of Linkin Park is and will forever be one of my favorite artists, and also one of the most inspirational to me along the likes of Anthony Kiedis, and Paul McCartney. Chester was only 41 years old when he died and I was heartbroken when I heard the news. I had always wanted to, but I was never able to see them live. Image result for chester bennington age died

Due to my sadness, I made sure that I could see one of the other artists in the band; Mike Shinoda. This was one of the best days of my life, and I almost cried when played the original version of  “In The End”  with Chester’s original vocals. That day was one of the most amazing days I’ve ever had, and I am so glad I got to see him live.Image result for mike shinoda

Chester committed suicide, and had dealt with many demons throughout his life. If you are dealing with depression, or are having suicidal thoughts, then contact (1-800-273-8255).
