Against the Grain of travel

Some people seem to believe that travel is expensive. They seem to stay rooted to their hometown and never explore the world around them. Their eyes are clouded by contemptuousness so the new experiences and places are never seen. New people,  foods, culture, could be experienced but “It’s too expensive”.

The plane ticket, hotels, food, are largely considered to take up most of the budget of traveling, and I agree somewhat, but there are so many reasons against this. So why do people still consider traveling too expensive, even if there are people that can travel on a budget? This is because most people travel wrong. They try to live in luxury and spend all of their money on tours, or by going to places like zoos or amusement parks. this takes up so much of your budget, so instead of doing those things, how about you try the things that people like me, who can travel on a budget do.

However I believe that traveling is not that expensive if you do it right. The expenses of travelling can be cut down astronomically. The first way is instead of buying a hotel room, go for a hostel or an air b&b. These are much cheaper alternatives to hotels, and if traveling in a group, the prices become even lower. Next is the food. If your travelling, fine dining isn’t a necessity.  Ask the locals where their favorite spot to eat is, and visit those places. also, try street vendors, for a cheap tasty treat from a local spot. Plane tickets can be expensive, but if you want to get a cheaper ticket order your tickets early, or even out of season. This can drastically lower the prices of travel.

I know people feel strongly that traveling is expensive, and thus they never experience the joys of meeting new people, trying new foods and cultures. I can try to change their minds but I know that no matter what I do, there will be people that read this and take it with a grain of salt. If they believe this, then I’ll let them be them.

Even so I will always continue to travel and chase these new experiences. I believe that there is always something new and different that you could emerge yourself in. If that be a culture, a new activity/sport or a food that you become obsessed with, there is always something new to do and a new place to go. I love traveling and I hope that as I get older, I can travel more and more. I also hope that the people reading this will take my advice and get out there and experience the rest of the world.
